WordPress is an incredibly popular CMS system. And according to Lipperhey, WordPress powers over 22% of the entire web.
In a sample of 21 million sites in the US, WordPress is the CMS used behind 68% of the websites that were running on a known CMS. Joomla was the second most popular CMS with 18% and Drupal in third with 5%.
They also analyzed SEO plugins on analyzed WordPress sites and found of the 25+ million WordPress sites, 49% are using one of the multiple SEO plugins. The All-In-One SEO Pack and WordPress SEO by Yoast clearly dominated in the number of sites utilizing an SEO plugin, and they are certainly the best known SEO plugins available.
However, when cross referenced with high scoring for SEO, it was the Platinum SEO Pack that performed the best, which is also surprising because it hasn’t seen an update for over a year. However, because some webmasters install an SEO plugin yet don’t use it to its full potential, it could mean that it is simply better out-of-the-box by sites that don’t tend to customize it.
