Ever wondered who attended a specific university that was noteworthy in some way? Google is now showing a section for “Notable alumni” in the Google search results, which clicks through to an additional carousel.
As you can see from the Stanford example, they are including not only famous business people, but actors/actresses, athletes and musicians.
Here is how it appears when you “view more.”
Then clicking on a person in the carousel will leave the carousel at the top but show the knowledge panel for the individual person.
Then, in the knowledge panel you can click the “More” link next to Education, and it brings up a new carousel with all the schools the individual attended, which then link back to show the school’s knowledge panel.
These notable alumni show up for every university/college I checked, and some non-universities too. Here are some more examples:
This is one of the many carousels Google has added to the search results over the past year or two.

Do you think there is any way to establish if notable alumni on Google would have an effect on Universities in terms of student numbers/recruitment/marketing? Would individual Universities hold such data, if any? Or Google?
Jennifer Slegg says
I am sure individual universities would have an idea of the influence alumni has. Not sure how Google would track that since they don’t have access to the various school’s data on numbers etc.

I think this is a great feature for schools and would be wonderful if there was a way to embed this carousel on a website. The only issue I can see with this feature is that there may be someone who claimed they attended a school who did not, so it doesn’t look like there is a way to edit it like you can with a Google Business.
