Google is introducing a brand new ranking boost for popular app indexed content in the mobile search results, for those apps that use API app indexing. Mariya Moeva, a Webmaster Trends Analyst from Google, made the announcement at SMX East.
With the API, Google gets access to data about which pages users visit the most, the start and end activities in the app and which pages tend to be the most popular with searchers. With this data, the are able to surface these pages higher in the search results, and Google will give those pages an additional ranking boost.
This is in addition to the current app indexing ranking boost announced earlier this year. So sites with in-app content can see those results receive two additional ranking boosts, on top of the normal Google search algorithm.
