New AMP Features Including Social Sharing, Sidebars & Collapsing Sections

The AMP project has announced some new additions to AMP that gives publishers more flexibility on the look and feel of AMP pages while still being fast for users. They include one much-requested addition – social sharing buttons.

<AMP-SOCIAL-SHARE>
This will populate some of the most popular social sharing buttons. including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+, with possible support for others in the future.

<AMP-SIDEBAR> This new feature allows for a sidebar that is anchored to the side of the screen in the closed positiom, but that can be opened by the user by clicking or sliding it open.

<AMP-ACCORDION>
This one allows users to hide selections in collapsable sections, similar to what we see on many mobile pages, particularly ones that are large with multiple sections, such as Wikipedia.

<AMP-DYNAMIC-CSS-CLASSES>
This allows publishers to creare a look and feel for the page based upon referral.

These features are available but are considered still in the testing phase, so they are asking for issues and bug notes.

However, I am not sure if Google has added this to their validator already or not. So these could cause the validator to fail if Google hasn’t updated yet, whnich results in those pages not appearing in AMP carousels or features..

I have asked John Mueller if this is an issue, and he believes it works, but has cc’d one of the AMP tech leads about it.
