Do HTTPS Mobile Sites Get an Extra Ranking Boost with Mobile Friendly Algo?

When Google made HTTPS a ranking boost, many websites made the switch to HTTPS.  While the ranking signal was later determined to be very tiny, the mobile-friendly ranking boost has raised a question about whether there would be an additional boost for SSL as well.

According to Google, there is no additional SSL ranking factor specifically applied with the mobile ranking algo.  However, those sites will still benefit from the regular SLL ranking signal.

“Will SSL mobile websites have any priority on mobile search rankings or there’s no difference?”

We separately use HTTPS as a ranking signal, which you can read about here. Remember that our ranking is made up of hundreds of different signals.

As John Mueller has said in a previous Google Webmaster Tools Office Hours Hangout, the secure site factor is small, but it can make the difference if two sites are nearly identical in positioning.  In other words, every little bit helps, but the mobile algo does not (at least currently) have an additional HTTPS factor built into it.  In other words, it makes sense to make the switch for a number of reasons, but this mobile change does not affect or change it.
