We have seen a Google displaying flight results when a search query is made for flights between two locations. However, Google is now testing a sponsored flight search box that appears for generic airfare queries without locations being added in the search.
The ad unit is geotargeted to the searcher’s location when the search is done. It displays random destination options based upon the geotargeted departure airport.
When you enter a destination, you are sent to one of the Google flight results pages that Google added earlier this year. Here is what the results page looks like when a destination of New York City is added.
It appears to be a very limited test, as it only appeared in Chrome and not other browsers.
The ad unit is labeled as sponsored.
