Ever since featured snippets began to be more prominent in Google’s search results, webmasters have had a love-hate relationship with them, wanting to be the site featured in them, while also concerned that the snippet might be so good at providing the answer that people don’t click through to the linked page featured. So additional transparency on how often they appear in the search results as well as the click through would be quite useful information for webmasters.
According to Illyes, it is still “quarters away,” so it will still be quote some time before we possibly see it added. But he also revealed that there needs to be an infrastructure change within Google Search Console in order to be able to show this data.
He also said they are looking at how to present the information best to users within Google Search Console. Hopefully we would see impression and CTR data, although I imagine that seeing a low CTR – even if it is higher than a non-snippet CTR for a similar query – could cause more concern from webmasters, even though there is not too much a webmaster can do to see the snippet removed, aside from the nosnippet tag.
This is definitely a feature a lot of webmasters want to see, so nice to hear it is still on the planning board to be added to Google Search Console.
