While we have seen carousels where Google shows multiple results from one site, they are also testing carousels displaying individual comments from a specific page.
Paul Shapiro spotted the test in the mobile search results with a carousel of comments showing for Reddit.
Here is what it looked like:
Clicking on the “view more” simply takes the searcher to the Reddit thread, not to the individual comments themselves.
It’s not exactly clear how they are choosing the comments. They aren’t top rated comments for the thread, since the hockey comment had only 90 points and the Chinook comment was part of a quote from the article and it had a mere 7 points.
Reddit seems to be the only site displaying this type of comment carousel at this time. I tried other high profile sites without success.
The comment carousel is only appearing on mobile. The same search on desktop shows the same stories in the top stories but do not feature the comments in a carousel like on mobile.
