Google has now pushed live a new feature in Google News where they offer the latest headlines from selected news sources, along with links to download their apps on either Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Here is how it appears:
To view them, simply go to Google News on iOS or Android then scroll to the bottom where the Editor’s Picks are listed. You can then scroll through various news sources and some of them will have the option to click a link to download the app.
There was a mixed group of news sites listed, but only a few of them had app download links available. They were all fairly well known news sites, although perhaps Google has plans to tailor these links to individual searchers.
These are not paid app download links.
It was first announced back on August 27, but it doesn’t seem to have been implemented until now.
To have your app appear, you need to add your app to the Google News Publisher Center for your site (listed under “Mobile Apps” in the left sidebar). Then add a “Editor’s Picks Feed.” They also have the details here in their help files.
Ramesh Singh was the first to spot it live.
