Google is planning to close down their Google Helpouts program on April 20, 2015.
Google launched help out as a way for experts in various topics to give personal advice to others for a fee. However Google feels the program hasn’t grown as much as they expected to, so they are closing down the program.
On April 20, 2015, users will be able to download their account history using Google Takeout until November 1, 2015.
While Google Helpouts launched in November 2013, it didn’t end up being promoted as much in the search results as some people expected. Part of that reason was obviously to prevent spam, but users ended up having to self promote in most cases.
Amazon has a similar video service called Mayday with Amazon experts, which is offered through their Fire tablets and smart phone. the service is only available in the US and UK in English, and in German on Amazon.de. However this is serviced by Amazon factors, and not to those who are selling a unique skill.
Here is the full letter Helpouts users received.
