Google & Bing Display Stock Prices in AutoSuggest Drop Down

Google has added another new feature to their autocomplete drop down – stock prices.  Bing has also added the same, although with lesser success when compared to Google.

Here is how it appears when you begin searching for the stock price of Facebook in Google:

When you click that autocomplete result, it takes you to the usual search result page which details the stock information for Facebook at the top.

It also shows up in desktop:

You’ll notice that the drop down autocomplete answer when searching in Google also shows  the important time information, so searchers know how up-to-date (or not) the stock information is.  But it does seem to match the same date/time information that is listed on the actual stock information on the search results page.

It isn’t restricted to just NASDAQ.  Here are additional results, including non-US stock market prices.

Bing is also including stock prices in their own autosuggest.

In the case of Bing, they are pulling their data from Morningstar.  However it lacks date/time information, which makes it not neatly as useful – or accurate – as Google’s version of stock autosuggest.  Bing also lacks a comprehensive search result page for the query.  When you click through, you see this:

Here, Bing does include time reference with “market closed”.  But despite the search query being for stock information, Bing has pushed it quite far down the page and requires an additional click to expand their stock info box in the search results.  Once you click “expand”, you see this:

Those that watch the stock market avidly usually have sites and/or apps to get this kind of information quickly.  But it is nice to see that Google is promoting this type of information via autocomplete for those who keep an eye on prices but are not actively seeking out details multiple times per hour or day.

Google has recently been adding useful features to autosuggest, including weather.
