Google Analytics Expands Hacked Site Alerts for Webmasters

Google has now expanded their hacked site alerts to Google Analytics, meaning site owners who might not check their site regularly and who are not signed up for Google Search Console will still get alerts for the site being hacked when they login to Google Analytics.

Last year Google added alerts in Analytics for sites that were compromised and either phishing or distributing malware, which resulted in Google alerting 24,000 property owners about the compromised.  Now they are also doing it for hacked sites where hackers add content in violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines, which cover the majority of types of hacked sites.

Google also mentions possibly serving an “older, safer” version of the site, presumably an older cached version.

It also directs people to Search Console, which is nice since often people seeing the hacked site warning in the search results aren’t aware of it because they haven’t signed up yet.
