Google Adds Quotes to Knowledge Panels for Famous Individuals

Google has been adding quotes to the top of their search results recently in knowledge boxes.  Now they have also been added to the knowledge panel for well known individuals in the search results.

Google seems to include a sampling of quotes to include in their knowledge panel for individuals, and they do display when simply searching for the person’s name.  For the knowledge card of quotes to appear at the top of the search results, you have to be specifically searching for quotes.

Here is an example of a search for Tolkien and the knowledge panel showing a sampling of quotes.  There is also an option to show more quotes – 7 more in this case.

And when you click on it, you see a knowledge card which is triggered by the search for “Tolkien quotes”.

The card is also expandable to show more quotes.

Interestingly, when you look at the knowledge card for the Tolkien quote example, it becomes obvious the quote results are not static – there are quite a few differences between the quotes in the knowledge card when we originally discovered it and the quotes displayed today.

Bing has also added quotes into their own search results recently, although not as effectively as Google has, and Bing doesn’t show any in the knowledge panel.
