Google Adds “People Typically Spend” Times to Local Businesses

Google has added a new feature to the local knowledge panel, this highlighting the time a person spends at a business.

Here is what it looks like:

It seems to have gone live early Saturday when I did a search for a local business to check opening times, as it wasn’t showing the previous day.

Here is another example:

It also will show a range of times, for example, this query for Starbucks in Melbourne shows a range from 20 mins to an hour.

This doesn’t appear to be showing for desktop searches, only for mobile.There also seems to be a threshold for Google to show this.  For example, it showed for the large book retailer but not for a smaller independent bookstore down the street from it.

This also has an interesting competitive analysis angle for local business owners, for the ability to see how much time the average shopper spends in a business, information that is typical expensive or hard to get.

This seems to be international, as I was able to replicate it in many different countries.
