Google Adds Dictionary Search Box to the Google Search Results

If you do a search in Google for a word that triggers the definition box, Google is now including an added search box just for searching definitions, directly to the answer box at the top of the search results.

+ AM spotted it yesterday and posted a screenshot to Twitter.

Here is what it looks like:

When you enter a new search term, it doesn’t actually change the rest of the search results page, just the box itself.  It also auto expands with further information on the query, with what you normally see with the drop down.

As you can see, the regular search results still show the original search query, not the new updated one.

For most sites, this really won’t have an impact, unless the site is in the dictionary area.  Most people that are searching for a definition of something will get the answer right in the answer box.

This does make it more convenient for those who want to look up multiple definitions, such as students for homework.
