Disable Google’s Site Search in Search Results With Meta Tag

If you don’t want Google to include a site search box within the listing for your website in the Google search results, Google has added a new tag to disable the functionality.

Spotted by Menashe Avramov, you simply add <meta name=”google” content=”nositelinkssearchbox” />

They have also added information about the new tag to their “Meta tags that Google Understands” page.

When users search for your site, Google Search results sometimes display a search box specific to your site, along with other direct links to your site. This meta tag tells Google not to show the sitelinks search box. Learn more about sitelinks search box.

Google introduced the new site search within the search results feature in September, but they didn’t provide the meta tag information to turn it off at the time.

Webmasters just need to add the new tag to their homepage, not all pages of the site.
