Bing Suggesting Additional Searches With Drop Down When Scrolling Up

Bing has added a new feature to make it easier to keep a Bing searcher on Bing, rather than perhaps abandoning it for another search engine when a searcher can’t find exactly what they are looking for.

If you do a search on Bing and scroll down until you reach the end of the search results, if you start scrolling back up for a second look at those results rather than clicking through to the second page of search results or abandoning the search, Bing will drop down an overlay from the top of the browser window.

This overlay has an additional Bing search box as well as some refined versions of the query that the user just searched for.

It was displaying for both commercial and non-commercial terms.   Some of the suggestions seemed a bit odd, and it isn’t clear if it was based on popularity or just how searchers often refined their initial search queries.

It is a great way for Bing to keep searchers on the site, and it also has the added perk of triggering an additional search by the user.

It appears to be only in limited testing as the same searches no longer trigger it this morning.
