If you search for a product type without specifying a specific model on Bing, they are now including a new section on the right hand sidebar of the search results highlighting specific models of the product that are popular, which then launches into a product carousel.
Here is an example for a search for “VAIO laptop” on Bing.
Note that these “Popular on Web” results are not sponsored results, although underneath it, you can see a shopping ad unit from Bing Ads.
Here is another example:
It is worth noting that they are only showing products made by the same company, so they aren’t showing competitive products in these “Popular on Web” results.
Here is another example:
And when you click through, it triggers a carousel with all these products and more:
It also shows a related knowledge panel for each specific model as it is clicked, with more details.
This is an interesting thing Bing is trying out, but it makes me wonder just how many people would actually use it. And it does push down the shopping ads further down on the page when it is present, something that advertisers might not be as happy about.
This might be a US only feature, or only on a limited basis, as I can’t trigger it from Canada, only the US.
