The announcement, which comes quickly after the news that AOL is taking over the display ad business from Bing, means that Bing Ads will no longer serve content ads on Microsoft, Yahoo and their network of partner sites.
Bing Ads will continue to serve content ads on Windows Media, in apps for the Windows Phone, and in Windows itself. It is likely the ads here would be replaced by ads on the display side instead.
Bing says that they currently only see a small percentage, less than 0.1%, of their overall ads being served through content ads, so they don’t anticipate advertisers noticing a difference. However, if advertisers have a particularly good ROI from sites in the content network, they will definitely be impacted.
