According to Gary Illyes from Google, he said that Google does, in fact, consider all SSL certificates as equal when it comes to ranking purposes.
Ever since the ranking signal was announced, there has been a prolific amount of companies selling SSL certificates, ranging in price from $5 up to several hundred dollars.
Some webmasters on a limited budget were understandably concerned that these super cheap SSL certificates might not be all they were cracked up to be. Those with funds were looking at more “reputable” sellers for their secure certificates, under the belief that the most expensive options were likely safer.
But as both Chrome and Firefox are planning to highlight sites that are unsecure, more webmasters are looking into SSL certificates so they don’t suffer the negative impact of those upcoming changes.
Most webmasters agree that purchasing a certificate from a company recognized as a Certificate Authority (CA). But when you do decide to purchase an SSL certificate, do exercise caution and if you are unsure, ask other webmasters you trust which companies they bought their certificates.
