On Monday evening and into Tuesday morning, people began noticing that local pack results were no longer being shown in the Google Search results.
People in various countries were noticing the missing pack results, however this was affecting multiple browsers, users and countries.
While many people feel that it was simply a bug in the local pack serving, others feel that it could be something Google is testing… after all, it is hardly the first time that Google has tested various versions of local related search result aspects, such as various sized packs, carousels and even things like map versus logo.
However, what makes this particular issue seem more likely to be a bug is that people were seeing it across multiple browsers (tests are often just single browser) and it appears everyone was seeing it, not just a limited set of people. It was also for both mobile and desktop searches, so it wasn’t the mobile friendly algo coming into play, unless it too was being tested.
Users were reporting that the search results were back to normal with plenty of pack results appearing by Tuesday afternoon.
There is more discussion on Google+ and forums.
We will update with MozCast data for local pack when it becomes available later today.

Thanks for covering Jen and sharing my forum and G+ Community posts. It gave a few of us heart attacks for sure!
I emailed my Google Local contacts to ask if it was a glitch, a test or an April Fools joke and right after that, local results came back. So I guess it was a glitch.
